I have good news, and it has nothing to do with car insurance.
I loathe those people. I can’t get their stupid (but clever) slogan out of my head when I say, “I have great news!”
Yeah, so I have a personal achievement to speak of. To many it may seem quite trivial but to me it has been a life long battle. It has been a long battle with my folks and most of all with me. I have spent countless hard earned monies and energies try to compensate for this shortcoming and finally I have triumphed. Surprisingly, I have my lovely little girl to thank.
I have quit biting my nails.
Due to my past failures, I wanted to wait for sometime before announcing this news to the world. After several months now with no urges, I feel I have finally kicked it.
I thank my little girl for being a little monkey-see…monkey-do. There came a time when she realized I was doing something with my hands, at first she would come over to me and try to get whatever I was “playing with” but there was nothing each time. After a while, I would catch her watching me as I gnawed away at my little stubby nails until finally I caught her chewing on her own. It was a pivotal moment for me, no longer was I just destroying my own fingers but now I would be the source of another person’s strife with nail biting. (Go ahead and laugh, it’s ok… I can’t hear you.)
If you have never had this problem, you may think if is trivial and somewhat stupid, but honestly, it can be a huge self image issue to a young girl. As if there isn’t enough to worry about at that time in a young girl’s life.
So I have done it. I am proud and I wear nail polish often. I don’t like the way it peels off after I do the dishes but it just gives me another opportunity to paint my nails.
That is all I have to say for the moment.

Way to go, chickie mama!
Way to go Monica. I bite my nails and have been trying to quit also. Sometimes I feel that it will be harder to quit chewing my nails then it was quitting smoking! Awesome job...

I forgot to mention in my comment yesterday.... start wearing gloves when you wash dishes or do any cleaning with soap and water. It will save all that hard work on getting those nails to look so pretty! That's how I got started wearing gloves many, many years ago. Just a bit of motherly advice.
Love,
Ma-in-law!
