December 31, 2006
-
Here it is the end the year.
Honestly, this day could not have come any faster.
I feel like December was much like teetering on the edge of disaster.
And so begins the next year.
I am not all doom and gloom for the New Year, I just feel like December set the tone of what is to come. “Unfinished business”, if you will.
Dwayne and I come a long way now, since 2000. I can hardly believe it at times. I am so incredibly lucky to have him in my life. What a diamond in the rough!
I am eager to see what the New Year brings for our relationship, how it might grow stronger and what we may discover about each other.
I got Dwayne a book for Christmas that will help him decide what to do with his future. Maybe help him decide what school he should go to.
I am excited to see how my Brother will grow in his recovery. He is doing really great, he is getting down to the root of his problems, instead of trying to cope with them. I really admire his courage to face these things. It is not easy.
Georgia…boy if she growing. There are times when I would love to do nothing more with my day than follow he around with a notepad. Today, she looked at my old t-shirt and asked, what is that on your shirt? (I do not wear too many shirts that have images on them anymore. I feel more comfortable with non-advertisement. So around the house I will wear old shirts that have images. This shirt has two turtles, dancing one is holding a banjo and the other is holding a tambourine, you may have seen this hippy wannabe deadhead shirt.) She says, “What is that on your shirt Mommy? Is that turtles shakin their booties?” I laugh and say, “Yes they are dancing”
The things that come from her mouth are sometimes the funniest things I hear all day long.
If you were expecting a Christmas card from me this year, I didn’t get a single card out. Not a one. Believe me, I am disappointed for all of us.
You will definitely get one from us next year.
Change of tune….
So you remember when your friends would make you a mix tape for your birthday, or just because they spent the afternoon listening to their Dad’s albums and wanted to share the wealth….
I had a small collection of some of the finiest mix tapes. Of which I miss very much. In 1999 Winter, I was living in Newark DE in College Town Hell-Hole neighborhood. My car, actually my brother’s car, I was driving because my Buss had broken down again, backward distributor cap. Yeah, I dunno. Anyway, I never locked my brothers car. It was this beat down electric blue VW rabbit, I had the best time driving it in the snow that year, drove all the way down to Perryville MD to pick uup my mamma to go crusing when the city shut down. I had to park at the bottom of her ½ mile long drive way and walk up hill in the snow to get her, she tried to back out but I forced her into the night. We ended up at Deer Park, had a beer and chatted it up with the bar tender. We had a nice time there. So I loved that car. It was fast. I never locked the doors. One night all of my tapes were stolen from the car, you see they were all in one of those wooden tape boxes, in one swoop they got all of my personally created mix tapes along with all of the Grateful Dead bootlegs I ever had. Tonight I want to mourn a bit, as I feel they will be like the Phoenix and be reborn on the lovely new ipod that I received from my husband for Christmas. Thank you honey.
Tapes that I miss:
Woo Blah
Skate Boards and Coffee
All of the tapes that Jesse Yeatman made for me 1993-1997
Jesse Yeatman’s bootleg of Allen Ginsburg at St. Mary’s College MD
Dead show – no idea what year – Micky’s B-day every one says “Happy Birthday Mick” gift from Chris Starling for my birthday,(my nickname is Mic)
Dead Show – Aug 1975 – a baby is born – near the date my brother died.
Dead show – had the sweetest Space -> Black muddy river I think I have ever heard. It was bone chilling
Non-mix tapes:
Joy Division
The Cramps –Bad music for Bad people
Tom Waits
Peter Murphy
Zen Guerrilla
Sinead – Troy
Cowboy Junkies
Creatures
Cure
Token Entry
The Pouges
Black train Jack
Carly Simon – You’ve got a friend
Peter Gabriel – Passion (sound track)
What else can I remember now 7 years later…
I am actively searching for the missing music for downloading on to my ipod – woo!
I have Troy… so far.
If any of my friends read this and know of the tapes and music that I miss and happen to have a copy, pass it on, K?
Have a happy New Year Dear friends and family!
